ELDR
The First Flame
Long before the first kingdom rose from the earth, before mountains were given names, before the stars were mapped by curious minds, and before humanity had learned to preserve its memories in stone or ink, there existed a force so ancient that even time itself seemed young beside it. It wandered the endless darkness between worlds in silence, carrying neither ambition nor purpose that mortal minds could fully comprehend, and wherever its light reached, the universe itself seemed to breathe with new possibility.
Humanity would one day call this eternal force Eldr.
It was never the First Flame's true name. Across countless worlds and across civilizations now lost beyond memory, other peoples had attempted to describe the same presence, each using words shaped by their own language, beliefs and understanding. Some believed it to be a god. Others saw only a force of nature. A few understood that it was neither.
Eldr was never a ruler seeking dominion over worlds, nor a creator demanding worship from those who lived beneath its light. It possessed no throne, built no kingdoms and claimed no followers. It simply travelled, as it always had, carrying within itself the endless possibility from which hope, imagination and transformation could emerge.
Where ordinary fire consumed...
The First Flame awakened.
It did not create life, for life had already found its own way across the stars long before Eldr ever arrived. Instead, its presence revealed what life was capable of becoming. A dream became an idea. An idea became discovery. Discovery became civilization. Stories that would otherwise have faded into silence endured through generations until they became legends.
For countless ages the First Flame continued its journey, passing worlds that flourished beneath its light before eventually yielding to time, just as every civilization must. Nothing created was meant to last forever. Not kingdoms. Not empires. Not even the stars themselves. Yet Eldr remained unchanged, moving ever onward through the endless darkness, never looking back, never lingering where a world's story had already reached its natural end.
Earth was never meant to be different.
It was simply the next chapter.
When the First Flame finally reached this world, it did not descend as a conqueror, nor did it arrive surrounded by armies or miracles that demanded belief. Its coming passed unnoticed by those who lived beneath the open sky, yet from that moment onward the world itself slowly began to change. Ancient forests seemed to remember forgotten whispers. Rivers became places of reverence. Mountains guarded mysteries no one could explain. Beings that had always existed suddenly found themselves woven into stories that would outlive entire civilizations.
The First Flame had not created them.
It had awakened a world where legends could live.
Then came the great collision among the stars.
A celestial body shattered against the eternal journey of the First Flame, and from that impossible meeting something entirely new was born. Fragments of celestial matter became forever infused with the living essence of Eldr, carrying with them only the faintest echo of the Flame's infinite nature. As those Fragments drifted across the heavens and eventually came to rest upon the Earth, they awakened possibility wherever they remained. They did not create greatness, nor did they choose heroes or monsters. They simply revealed what had always existed beneath the surface.
Courage became heroes.
Wisdom became discovery.
Compassion became guardians.
Yet fear gave birth to monsters.
Greed awakened tyranny.
Hatred consumed kingdoms.
The First Flame offered possibility.
What each soul chose to become was never its decision.
Across the centuries, humanity searched for explanations. Every civilization remembered only fragments of the truth, interpreting them through its own traditions and beliefs. Some spoke of dragons sleeping beneath mountains. Others remembered moon maidens watching from distant skies. Forest spirits, ancient guardians, forgotten kings and impossible creatures filled the stories of every culture, each believing their legends had been born alone.
They never realized they were remembering the same beginning.
Time buried the First Age beneath ice, stone and silence. Great halls disappeared beneath glaciers. Sanctuaries vanished into forests, deserts and oceans. Entire civilizations faded until only their myths remained. Yet through every passing age, one truth endured unchanged.
The First Flame never left.
Hidden beyond the memory of humanity, Eldr continued to burn in silence while the world above forgot that it had ever existed. Kingdoms rose where ancient sanctuaries had once stood. Empires flourished before collapsing into dust. Languages were born and disappeared. Generations came and went, believing themselves to stand at the beginning of history, never realizing they were merely the latest chapter in a story far older than themselves.
Today, the world remembers Eldr only as myth.
But myths have a curious way of preserving truths that history cannot.
Across forgotten valleys, beneath ancient mountains and within places untouched by modern hands, echoes of the First Flame are beginning to stir once more. Old stories are whispered again. Long-forgotten places awaken. Legends that slept in silence for centuries are no longer entirely silent.
Very few understand why.
Among the Flamekeepers, only a handful carry knowledge preserved across generations. Bound by an oath older than memory, they protect truths that were never meant to become trophies or objects of conquest. They know that some mysteries survive only because they remain hidden, and that the greatest responsibility is not to reveal every secret, but to ensure that the wrong hands never reach it.
For the First Flame was never meant to belong to anyone.
It exists so that hope may never disappear.
So that imagination may never fade.
And so that, in every age yet to come...
new legends may still be born.
